Compared to most sports, golf is very safe. The chances of getting seriously injured are very small. But with all of the good news comes a few hazards golfers need to be aware of to stay safe and healthy.
Dehydration
During a four-hour round your body loses enough water to make you dehydrated, lose mental focus and feel tired, so it helps to drink a lot of water. A good rule of thumb is to drink eight ounces of fluid before you even tee off, then continue to drink four to eight ounces every 15 minutes of play. Sports drinks replace salt and electrolyte, and some soda can be beneficial, but keep in mind that drinking alcohol is dehydrating and should be done in moderation, or reserved for the 19th hole.

Golf and fitness. Two words you might not believe go together, judging from some of the physiques you see on the golf course. But working on strength, flexibility, and balance can not only make you feel better but also improve your scores.
A study recently completed by sports scientist Neil Wolkodoff, director of the Rose Center for Health and Sports Sciences in Denver revealed some interesting and very specific conclusions about the value of golf as exercise, and also about the effects of walking versus riding on the golfer’s score. Wolkodoff recruited eight amateurs, all men, ranging from ages 26 to 61
and handicaps ranging from 2 to 17.
The volunteers were fitted with
various montoring and measuring equipment, and then each played the
front nine of a hilly Denver golf course several times over the study period.

When Florida’s many acclaimed golf courses combine with its mild winter and abundant sunshine, play jumps up a notch from wonderful to phenomenal. The only drawback is that many people get the same idea at once — let’s play golf! While the locals and visitors compete for their invaluable time on the links, there is one unhurried group — members of private country clubs.
There are as many private country clubs in the Greater Sarasota area as reasons to join. Beyond easier access and prime tee times, course conditions at a private club are usually perfect, not only because the members demand it, but because of the fewer number of rounds.

One of Florida’s top public golf courses earns its high ratings through a commitment to excellence.
“It’s apparent from the time you I pull through the gates, gliding down the wide boulevard that bisects plush carpets of green and leads to Bobcat Trail’s Florida style clubhouse that you are in for an extraordinary day of golf - a true escape from reality into a golfer’s dream. Although the clubhouse may have a distinct coastal Florida architectural flair, the course that revolves around it is anything but typical Florida.
How good is Bobcat
Trail? Good enough to merit numerous awards, host major local tournament events and earn a 4-1/2 star rating from Golf Digest. With wide, rolling, meticulously maintained fairways, the course boasts plenty of water and sand to rate a reputation as a shot-maker’s course with ample opportunities for risk and reward. The introduction of the latest hybrid grass Champion Ultra Dwarf, on all 18 greens supports fast and true rolling conditions on putting surfaces that present distinct challenges with multiple tiers and slopes. Recent renovation of numerous sand bunkers scattered strategically throughout the course enhance the playability and serve as reminders not to stray from the lush fairways.
