One of Florida’s top public golf courses earns it’s high ratings through a commitment to excellence

“It’s a beautiful day at Bobcat Trail!” That’s the cheerful expression you’ll hear when making a tee time at North Port’s 4-1/2 star rated semi-private golf club.

It’s also the attitude you’ll encounter from every employee you meet—from the time you pull up to the bag drop to when the bartender pours your drink at the 19th hole.

General manager Drew Pearson attributes the service oriented relationship with customers as one of the reasons the club has garnered recognition as one of the top Florida golf clubs.

When Bobcat Trail Golf Club opened in 1998, the golf course was to be the centerpiece of the 490 acre master planned development in North Port.

With steady growth predicted for the south Sarasota County area and the Toledo Blade Boulevard corridor, it has grown into one of the premier facilities in southwest Florida.

With the experience of operating two upscale golf clubs in Indiana, owner Roger Delagrange and Drew Pearson’s goal has been to bring the golf club’s service to another level. 

Recognizing the need to stay cutting edge and offer the best possible golfing experience, Bobcat Trail undertook the task of totally renovating the 10-yearold clubhouse to make it operate more efficiently and offer a superior club lounge atmosphere to its members and guests.

The grill room and lounge area were enlarged to capture the views of the surrounding golf holes and accommodate informal diners, golf leagues, or neighbors just stopping by to check sports scores on several of the large, flat screen TV’s.

The adjoining dining room is open for lunch with a variety of exceptional menu items. The casually elegant setting is available for a variety of private parties, weddings or business functions.

Over the past year, Jeff Koor, golf course superintendent, and his staff have supervised a revitalization of the course, including the introduction of the latest hybrid grass, Champion Ultra Dwarf, on all 18 greens and most recently, renovation of numerous sand bunkers scattered strategically throughout the course.

New landscaping surrounds the front of the entrance and clubhouse and can also be found throughout the course.

In addition, a brand new fleet of Club Car Precedent golf cars has been delivered with state-of-the-art Ranger Plus GPS systems, featuring high-quality holeby-hole graphics and accurate immediate yardage descriptions to help golfers with proper club selection and navigation of the course, a handy aid since accuracy is important on this risk-reward course.

With wide, rolling, meticulously maintained fairways, the course boasts plenty of water and sand to provide players an enjoyable day. The keys to scoring well at Bobcat Trail are wellplaced tee shots, accurate iron shots, and confidence around the large, undulating, well-bunkered greens.
