Sean Jacklin, a senior at Manatee High School, has verbally committed to a full golf scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Jacklin is the son of Tony Jacklin, who won the 1969 British Open and the 1970 U.S. Open. He also co-designed The Concession Golf Club along with Jack Nicklaus. The Jacklins live in Manatee County.
Sean was recruited by North Carolina coach John Inman, who played on the PGA Tour. He made one visit to Chapel Hill, hung out with the guys on the golf team, attended a football game and decided North Carolina was the place for him.
“I made a visit and found out what it was like to be a Tar Heel,” said Jacklin. “I really liked it up there.”
Sean was born in Scotland and moved to Florida when he was 2-years-old.
Last May, he won a Florida Junior Tour event at Orange County National near Orlando. At 16, he was the club champion at the Bradenton Country Club. Currently, he practices and plays at The Concession.
A good student, Jacklin plans to study business at UNC, but he eventually hopes to play on the PGA Tour.
