 Walters-Slocum Team Captures Bradenton 2-man Championship
Steve Slocum and Phil Walters set a record in the winning the City of Bradenton 2-Man Championship last weekend at River Run Golf Links. The Manatee County duo shot 126 for two rounds, eclipsing the old mark held by Jeff Partin and Gary Nagy by one stroke. The previous record was set in 2002.
The Venice team of Joe Clarkson and Billy Stevens finished four strokes back after getting to within one shot on Sunday.
The teams of Carey Mitchell and Tim Morrissey, David Peabody and Ray Wenck and Chris Muscara and Mike Faraone were tied at 131.
Walters is the reigning City of Bradenton individual champ, and he won the City of Sarasota Men’s Championship in 2008. Clarkson is a former Venice City champ. River Run head pro Clint Wright was disappointed in the turnout. Fewer than 40 teams entered compared to 64 in previous years.
Rosedale’s Learning Center Offers Instruction for All Levels
 Steve Whidden, the new director of instruction at Rosedale Golf and Country Club, hopes to turn the Learning Center into one of the elite teaching programs in the area. Here is what is going on at the Center:
- Clinics for men, ladies, beginners, juniors and seniors
- All aspects of short and long game along with how to practice, mental, conditioning and stretching
- Club fitting
- Individual instruction for half and whole hours as well as series
- On course instruction programs
- Junior camps and family golf day programs
- A lesson, lunch and golf daily package
- Year-round golf school
“We offer the most comprehensive and affordable teaching option anywhere,” said Whidden. “All of this is open to our members and the public, including our driving range which is open to the public seven days a week for practice.”
A Quickie Tip
When making practice putting strokes, keep your eyes directly on the hole so that your eyes will tell your shoulders and arms how much to swing the putter. This will help with your feel for distance when putting.
